SUPER HERO FINGER PUPPETS SEPTEMBER 2018 - PHOENIX ARIZONA

16 SEPTEMBER 2018     CAPTAIN'S LOG

Read

The Troops arrived early this year sporting their capes, cool glasses and shields. Approximately 102 were sent out on their missions this time boosting our total to almost 500 sent into the battle zone since May 2017. Here are a couple of notes from their Captain, the first mid August after the Finger Puppets volunteered:

"Thank you so much for continuing to support the kids we see. I know you are knee-deep in little capes and masks, but I hope you know how much of a difference the Secret Keepers make for our kids. They constantly utilize the little Guys for healing and we're just so grateful to have them!" Thank You! Capt. Danielle

...after the Super Heroes arrived the Captain touched base again saying:

"The Super Guys are amazing and the kids LOVE them! The Secret Keepers do so much for services and the kids abilities to progress on their path. I also love them and swear they get cuter every time you drop them off. Thank You! Capt. Danielle

We took a month off from our daily creating to make the Super Heroes. To be perfectly honest, I think my dies are wearing down and my Cuddlebug doesn't seem all too happy with all of this cutting, either. But that doesn't stop us from pushing forward and soon we will be making more to send.

Over and Out!

With plenty of work still at hand, the new arrivals have become Finger Puppets. The child and therapist work together in roll play allowing the child to express their concerns, anxieties, or even positive accomplishments in their life.

Twenty were assigned a month ago with great results so we are sending 90 this week giving each therapist their own set of 10.
Dog is being a bit shy but once he gets there and sees how important their work is he will jump right in with the rest of them and handle the task at hand.

A NEW YEAR 2018 OF COMMUNITY SERVICE - PHOENIX ARIZONA

23 JANUARY 2018     CAPTAIN'S LOG

January 2018 Arrivals, Today we dropped off 30 more Troops, all eager to get their assignments. It was an emotional drop off for me. My biggest supporter, Gary, was able to come with me and we got a tour.

The people who work at Childhelp are amazing people and I admire them for what they do for these kids.

Here are reports from Childhelp of children attached to them:

"One kiddo took one of the Superhero buddies with her after making a disclosure to remind her she was a superhero, brave and keeping others safe too."

"I had another kiddo take one with a "spirit stone" she placed in the buddy's backpack to help her feel strong."

"My client struggles with school and often has issues adjusting. She takes her buddy with her and then whisper her worries into the backpack so the buddy can carry them for her and she can let go of them."

"One of my clients picked a superhero buddy and gives it all kinds of superpowers depending on what he needs that day. One of the main powers his buddy has is the ability to go back in time so he can change what happened to him. It helps him process and move forward."

Their stories move your emotions. There are 400 + new stories who walk through those doors every month. Our Guys are trying to help as many as possible but I can only do on average of 60 a month and would like to do more. I am considering bringing in volunteers to help with stitching.

These little Secret Keepers are small but they can bring big results in givng a child comfort and strength in moving forward with their lives.

SUPER HERO COMMUNITY SERVICE SEPTEMBER 2017 - PHOENIX ARIZONA

9 SEPTEMBER 2017     CAPTAIN'S LOG

Superhero September was started in 2015, when a Phoenix Police Crimes Against Children Unit Detective recognized that the superheroes whom we have grown to love such as Superman, Batman and Spiderman rose up out of personal loss and trauma themselves. With an average of 500 children coming through the Childhelp Children’s Center of Arizona per month for trauma and abuse investigations and treatment, he thought he would make them superheroes too, by building their confidence.

No job is too small for our Superheroes who are volunteering once again to help these precious little people. Our colorful array of animals with their capes, shields and cool superhero glasses can be clipped to any belt loop or backpack ready to defend their emotions. These Guys can be personalized with a Sharpie allowing the child to place their initial on the chest plate, making them officially a Superhero.

Note from Capt. Danielle - We received the new Platoon at 10:15 on 5-June-2017. Therapists were ready with their assignments.

It is being reported that the kiddos and Guys are doing extremely well together. Procedures are as follows...

The child writes their worry and the Guy takes care of it in their backpack. These backpacks are also used as "Transition Totes" which allows either the child or caregiver(s) (depending on the situation) to place a note or something special in the backpack when going through a transition. When, in the case of joint custody, the child has to leave one to go to the other, or when the child is starting a new school, new babysitter, etc, it is used to help ease the transition for the child.

For the older kids and teens, the team is also using them to help with low self-esteem. They place something positive or write positive reminders and then place them in the backpack so the individual can then "carry strength" with them as they go through their week.

When the Troops are assigned to their child, they are displayed for the child who can then pick who they want and give them a name. They go through this time together becoming forever friends.

We are requesting that future Guys come with a key chain ring so they can be clipped to their school bag, belt loop or purse keeping their friend with them when needed.

COMMUNITY SERVICE BY FARM FRESH MEMBERS OPERATION BACKPACK - PHOENIX ARIZONA

24 MAY 2017     CAPTAIN'S LOG

Read

Our first major deployment happened 24 MAY 2017. A week and a half in the making, 28 Troops were ready and eager for their assignments.

Their Captain greeted them with a huge smile and assured us that the therapists were excited to be getting them in.

With 10 animals and 16 different color backpacks, we can assure that at least 160 will each be unique from the others. This is very important so the kids know that what they have is special to them.

My one question, when taking them in and there were so many in the car, could I have driven legally in the HOV lane?   Till our next deployment...

25 MAY 2017 Update: I just got word from their Captain that they’ve been deployed for 24 hours now and most of them are already on the front lines. Dog seems to be the most popular.

COMMUNITY SERVICE BY FARM FRESH MEMBERS - PHOENIX ARIZONA

4 MAY 2017     CAPTAIN'S LOG

Farm Fresh is doing Community Service and have teamed up with Childhelp Children’s Center of Arizona   https://www.childhelp.org/advocacy-centers/childrens-  here in Phoenix to serve as Mental Health Volunteers. Each one of our Guys/Girls is equipped with a backpack on their back and are working side-by-side with professional therapists to help children who don't have it so good in life. These are children who have been victims of abuse, neglect, or trauma. The Guys offer up their backpacks for the child to place their woes in and their new found friend will keep it for them safe away from the child. We have been receiving great reports on how they are working with the therapists.

Here are some pictures of them hard at work in the therapy offices.

March Service

Bull and SuperPig are on bookshelves in with figurines that are used for the play therapy portion of their trauma therapy.

March Service

Lamb is waiting for her assignment..

March Service

Dog and Fox are in the house/school which are in little sets and used when the children are struggling with a specific space (school, home, court, etc.) so that they can walk through how they’re perceiving these places, specific incidents, or practice for upcoming challenges (moving, testifying in court, etc.)

March Service

Horse and Rabbit are in the fish bowl in a sand tray which is used quite often in therapy to help the children “create a world” or discuss how they see their world/want their world to be.

Finger Puppets in Action

"We got the puppets today! Our team is already so excited to have them and is using them in their afternoon sessions. We put it up on our facebook page as well."

HERE ARE MORE REPORTS FROM THE THERAPISTS:

“I use the finger puppets for EMDR (bilateral stimulation) as well specially with children that don’t like the buzzers or to move their eyes moving my finger. They pick their favorite one and they do much better than just following fingers which get them dizzy sometimes.”

“My client uses it as a keychain on her backpack and throughout the day will write down her thoughts or feelings and put them inside the backpack. When she comes to therapy she will then share what she wrote.”

“One of my clients writes positive messages about herself, or if she is struggling in identifying any she will ask family members/friends to and she keeps them in the backpack buddy. Anytime she wants to self-harm or is feeling low, she takes them out to read them. This has been SO AMAZING for her to be able to keep those positive affirmations with her wherever she goes.”

The initial report from their Captain, Capt Danielle:
"We are definitely happy you found us and that we can put the Guys to use. They definitely work well with the population we see and are a great fit. The kids have been loving them. I have been told generally that they're working great with treatment and the kids are able to attach to them and use them to tell their stories, keep their worries safe, and be a little comfort companion for them to take."
